Sharjah24: On the second night of the seventeenth editionof the Emirates Children's Theatre Festival, with a sizable audience of children and their families, the Khorfakkan Theatre for the Arts showcased a play titled "Moon Island." Written by Sheikha Sara bint Mohammed bin Majid Al Qasimi and directed by Abdullah Al-Haribi, the performance engaged the young audience by narrating the tale of an imaginary island named "Moon Island." Inhabitants of this island lead a life of love, harmony, and peace, enhanced by a luminous stone that falls from the sky, bestowing unique abilities upon them.
The play conveyed various moral messages to children, highlighting the significance of family in shaping individuals and serving as the foundation for strong, happy, and civilised societies. It emphasised the importance of rejecting discord and differences among people, recognising them as major impediments to progress and development, often leading to societal conflicts and divisions.
Moreover, the performance aimed to instill valuable lessons in children, encouraging teamwork, fostering a sense of love, and cautioning against falling into the traps set by villains who employ various tactics to manipulate virtuous individuals for their nefarious plans of controlling communities.
The script successfully crafted a captivating dramatic narrative that resonated with children, steering clear of unnecessary complexities. The director effectively conveyed the performance's message by employing diverse theatrical elements and transforming the textual content into a dramatic language through imagery and choreographic dances, occasionally infused with light-hearted comedy.
The performance represents the second collaboration for the playwright and director at the Emirates Children's Theatre Festival, following their previous success in 2022 with the play "Lake of Peace," which not only received the accolade for Best Theatrical Performance but also garnered other prestigious awards.
