Sharjah24: A team from the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA), representing the Safety, Health, and Environment Management division, took part in the The 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 28). The global conference focuses on sustainable energy, sustainable financing, and youth entrepreneurship. The delegation attended a session that discussed the expansion of sustainability within the supply chain, emphasising the creation of a more sustainable supply chain within organisations. Furthermore, they engaged in a panel discussion on entrepreneurship and employment opportunities stemming from the shift in energy, with a particular emphasis on empowering youth in leadership roles and exploring potential financing and employment avenues.
Fatima Al-Kazim, Head of the Safety, Health, and Environment Department, clarified that in line with COP28 held in the United Arab Emirates, the Sustainability Department successfully implemented a cutting-edge sustainability initiative. This initiative resulted in the reduction of carbon emissions by a total of 3,292 tons. The project signifies a commitment under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, playing a pivotal role in the Conference of the Parties by working to minimise greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, it supports the United Arab Emirates' 2050 climate neutrality strategy.
