Dr. Engineer Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Head of SDAL, recently launched the project’s second phase.
Al Tunaiji stated that the project’s stages are initiated during the pre-growing season every year, indicating that the distribution process continues daily through several different outlets, including the department’s headquarters, before the beginning of the season.
He explained that wheat packages are scheduled to be distributed in different sizes, namely 5 kilograms, 10 kilograms, and 20 kilograms. Approximately 3 tons of “Yecora Rojo” seeds, one of the finest hard red Spring wheat varieties, will also be distributed. It is characterized by high purity, short germination period, and being free from fungal diseases, as this wheat is of American origin and is produced in Saudi Arabia. It is grown using a pivot irrigation system.
He added that there will be educational and awareness campaigns for farmers about the best international practices applied in cultivation methods for wheat seeds for best results.
