Sharjah 24: His Excellency Brigadier General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, attended an informative workshop titled "The White Cane," which was hosted in collaboration with the Emirates Schools Establishment.
This event also saw the presence of Brigadier Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al Naour, who serves as the Director General of Central Operations, and Brigadier Dr. Ali Abu Al Zoud, the Deputy Director General of Central Operations, along with several other high-ranking officers.
Bin Amer emphasised the significance of arranging the workshop, which aims to educate individuals on the correct way to interact with the visually impaired. He underscored the Sharjah Police's commitment to this particular group. This approach fosters direct and constructive communication with this important segment of society and contributes to improving their quality of life. Consequently, it fosters a more enlightened and socially cohesive community.
The workshop's objective was to underline the importance of the white cane for those with visual impairments and educate participants on effective interaction with them. Experts in the field of visual impairment, namely, Dr. Abdullah Awad Balleith and Fatima Hassan Mirak, led the workshop as well as Mohnaz Ahmed Al Baloushi.
The workshop encompassed several key topics, including the concept of visual impairment, discussing methods for engaging with the blind, exploring the tools and aids that facilitate their mobility and navigation, highlighting the significance and various uses of the white cane, and explaining the symptoms arising from eye-related diseases and their impact on vision. Furthermore, it delved into the services provided by the Emirates Schools Establishment to students with visual impairments.
In recognition of the Deputy General Commander of Sharjah Police commended the Emirates Schools Establishment's dedicated efforts to enhance the quality of life for the visually impaired, underscoring the importance of promoting inclusivity and community involvement.
