Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has stepped up efforts to finish the second phase of the initiative to install free energy efficiency and conservation gadgets (EECG) and water rationalising consumption gadgets (WRG) in houses.
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah directed the commencement of this programme. Based on consumption statistics, the authority budgeted AED 20 million to equip dwellings with advanced energy-saving devices.
Modern energy-saving gadgets and technologies were installed in 2,151 homes in Sharjah city during the second phase, accounting for 60% of the planned 3,916 dwellings in Sharjah, Khor Fakkan, and Kalba. By mid-September 2023, a total of 37,369 conservation components had been fitted.
Rashid Al Marzouqi, Assistant Director of the Conservation Department, stressed the authority's commitment to enhancing awareness of optimal energy and water usage and implementing best practices in consumption reduction, waste reduction, environmental preservation, and utility bill reduction.
Various initiatives have been organised to educate households about best practices and to take measures to guarantee optimal use of energy and water, with various sectors of the community, particularly those served by the social services department, being targeted.
The initiative, according to Al Marzouqi, entails the installation of sensors, timers, and energy-efficient heaters. All gadgets fulfil the criteria of the country's Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.
He said that before installation, overall consumption rates in residences in kilowatt-hours per day were 26,234 but dropped to 13,273 following installations.
