Sharjah 24: The Friends of Arthritis Patients (FOAP), affiliated to the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, continues its awareness campaign, on Khorfakkan Beach, in partnership with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, with the participation of more than 250 individuals from all segments of society.
The campaign was held in the presence of Her Excellency Waheeda Abdulaziz, Chairperson of FOAP; His Excellency Ahmed Al Hosani, Director General of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club; and members of the Board of Directors of FOAP; in addition to the participation of a number of entities and institutions such as: Sharjah Youth Centres, Emirates Foundation for Health Services, Khorfakkan Sports and Cultural Club, and Sharjah Centre for Voluntary Work.
The campaign aims to educate community members about the importance of exercising by organising summer sports and community awareness programmes, in different locations in the Emirate of Sharjah, in cooperation with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, where the campaign targeted all age groups.
The campaign includes many activities and events that raise awareness of arthritis and the need to unify efforts to help patients to face arthritis challenges successfully; educate them through lectures and events about the importance of walking, healthy nutrition and health consultations about osteoporosis; and conducting free examinations accompanying the event, in addition to marine events and sports.
Her Excellency Waheeda Abdulaziz expressed her happiness at launching the campaign, which is considered a continuation of the efforts aiming to raise awareness among arthritis patients, in particular, and all members of society, under the directives of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, to provide a healthy and supportive environment for patients in Sharjah, to enhance community awareness of arthritis, one of the common diseases in the UAE, in addition to support patients who face daily challenges, and to help them enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
Her Excellency indicated that the campaign is one of the means to make a positive change in society, by mobilising support for patients, while maintaining physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, which is one of the goals of the event.
