Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Aquarium preserves biodiversity and sustainability by caring for the marine environment and endangered animals, including “seahorses,” which need a special environment and seaweed provided by the aquarium on a daily basis.
The Sharjah Aquarium plays an important role in preserving sustainability and biodiversity, and devotes its efforts to caring for the marine environment and endangered animals, including “seahorses,” which need a special environment for reproduction.

The aquarium provides equipped containers with an appropriate size and water quality that suits the nature of the marine animal. The condition of the seahorse is monitored by specialists for a period ranging from two to three weeks, to be transferred to the display aquariums.

The male seahorse gives birth to the young, as it is equipped with a brood pouch that carries the eggs from two to six weeks, after which it releases from 100 to 1000 newborn.

The seahorse feeds on the seaweed provided by the aquarium on a daily basis. In addition, the aquarium provides special food for the newborn, such as phytoplankton and zooplankton.

After two months of care and attention, young seahorses are ready to move on to the next cycle of their lives, where two groups of mature creatures are released, one to the open sea, the other to decorate the breeding tanks, to educate the public about the importance of these unique sea creatures and the preservation of their habitats.
