For decades, the United Arab Emirates has paid great attention to the construction of dams.  Today, more than 150 dams are built in different emirates with a storage capacity of more than 130 million cubic metres, which contribute to enhancing the process of development and sustainability, food security, groundwater reserves, and energy generation.

The United Arab Emirates has more than 150 dams with a storage capacity of more than 130 million cubic metres of water, of which Sharjah has a large share, in line with the UAE approach, which has given dams and water basins attention for decades, whereas they serve as protection walls and arteries of sustainability.

Among the important dams also in Sharjah, Kalba Dam. I tis located in Al Ghayl region, in the city of Kalba, and it is one of the dams that Sharjah government is supervising to develop a tourist resort to serve the people of the region and visitors to the city of Kalba.

Sharjah dams play a prominent role in providing the water needed to increase green areas, especially mountainous agriculture in the Eastern Region, in the cities of Khorfakkan and Kalba, which is unique in Sidr trees, Samar, and ornamental plants that cover many of the mountains of the two cities.
