Sharjah 24: Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and the Supreme President of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah has extended its support to the "Institute of Oriental Studies" at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.
This generous grant aims to bolster the institute's Arabic language teaching initiatives and amplify its role within the university's historical journey. Established back in 1364, Jagiellonian University stands as Poland's oldest academic institution and Central Europe's second oldest.

The grant encompasses the provision of state-of-the-art technological resources for research, printing, documentation, and other essential equipment. This will greatly benefit the institute's faculty and dedicated students, while simultaneously advancing the development of its infrastructure. Every year, the institute welcomes a diverse cohort of learners from Poland and various European Union countries, all seeking to embark on a transformative Arabic language learning experience.

During an official visit to the University, a delegation from the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah were warmly received by Professor Władysław Witalisz, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, and Dr. Barbara Michalak, the Head of the Arabic Language Department at Jagiellonian University. The delegation included His Excellency Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, a valued trustee of the academy and the Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Dr. Mohammed Safi Al Mostaghanemi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, and Majed Al Hooli, the Director of Public Relations at the academy.

The delegation were briefed on the institute's commendable efforts in Arabic language education, along with their tailored curricula designed for non-native speakers. Furthermore, they were acquainted with the university's remarkable educational and research facilities, including its well-stocked library, housing an array of references and research materials that cater to both scholars and aspiring Arabic language students. During their visit, the delegation also explored the Astronomical Science Museum, the prestigious ceremonial hall, the university's main library, as well as the dedicated library exclusively serving the institute's needs.

Dr. Mohammed Safi Al Mostaghanemi, the Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah said, "The initiatives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, have left a significant mark on the promotion of the Arabic language and culture, locally, regionally, and globally. The grant, in addition to other initiatives led by His Highness, has significantly transformed the status of the Arabic language. It carries profound messages, urging nations, institutions, and individuals to join forces and contribute to the advancement of the Arabic language. The language serves as a fundamental pillar of Arab cultural identity and forms the basis for Arab engagement in intellectual and humanitarian endeavors."

Al Mostaghanemi further added, "The outcomes of this visit to one of Europe's and the world's prestigious universities have proven fruitful. Through this, we look forward to supporting the endeavors and efforts of the Institute of Oriental Studies in serving and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. We firmly believe that cooperation and joint work with the institute will elevate the level and quality of Arabic language education. Particularly, within the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, we have successfully established accessible and advanced curricula and methodologies for teaching Arabic. Our qualified staff is capable of contributing their expertise and resources to guide the institute towards achieving its goals of introducing European students to the essence of Arab culture through the gateway of language."

Dr. Barbara expressed her gratitude to His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, for his continuous support and patronage of educational institutions and his commitment to enhancing cultural exchanges between the world and Arab culture, with its rich intellectual and creative history. It is worth noting that three years ago, Jagiellonian University, represented by the Faculty of Languages and Philology, bestowed a special tribute to His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, and the Supreme President of the Arabic Language Academy, by awarding him the university's honourary medal. Jagiellonian University is considered one of the ancient academic institutions in the European Union.
