Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has begun taking measures for the second phase of Nazwa's underground reservoir expansion from (50) million to (500) million gallons.
AED77 million have been approved for the project in its four phases.
Engineer Essam Al Mulla, Director of Water and Desalination Plants Department, explained that the second has four elements.
The first element is injecting Nizwa's reservoir with water to verify if there are any chemical reactions between the injected water and the reservoir's water and the surrounding rocks.
The second element is drilling wells in the project's site and conducting the necessary tests to find the homogeneity of the site's layers with the injected area, measuring the flow of groundwater, the layers' porosity, permeability, and ability to store.
The third element is a questionnaire, field inspection of the farms surrounding the site, and a database to study their impact on the project.
The fourth element is updating the modeling and simulation programmes with new data, creating a simulation to expand the reservoir from 50 to 500, and developing strategies to preserve the water quantities in the site.
