Sharjah24: Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” intensified its inspection campaigns on economic establishments which activity is related to the holy month of Ramadan. Therefore, the Department awareness and inspection campaigns at the emirate level to educate consumers and merchants about their rights and duties to ensure the safety of markets. These campaigns come within SEDD’s concerns to protect consumers and its interest in the safety of Sharjah markets, and in line with the Department's mission to achieve economic development in the emirate.
In addition, SEDD carries out its plan about the inspection campaigns done on the emirate’s markets which included a number of major markets to inform the merchants and sellers in those markets of the need to set lists showing the prices of the products and give advice and instructions on the importance of adhering to the laws and ensuring the consumer’s knowledge of the value of consumer goods, and preventing any abuses in the selling process.
The Department is also keen to ensure that all economic establishments operating in the emirate adhere to all applicable controls and provisions, provide the best services to the consumer and ensure that goods that do not meet their terms and conditions are not promoted and sold. The inspection campaigns organized by the Department included the various cities and regions of Sharjah, in an effort to ensure the safety of all economic practices in the markets, coinciding with the advent of the holy month.
Commenting on that, Salim Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Commercial Control and Protection Department in SEDD, confirmed that the Department has intensified its inspection campaigns of the emirate's markets, which included a number of major markets. This was done to introduce merchants and sellers to their rights and duties and provide advice and guidance on the importance of adhering to all laws, controls and provisions in force in the emirate, providing the best services to consumers and ensuring that goods that do not meet their terms and conditions are not promoted and sold. Al Suwaidi stressed that it is important to adhere to clarify the price to the consumer before purchasing to prevent any abuses in the sales process, combat all manifestations of commercial fraud and limit negative practices that some merchants may resort to, as well as ensure the accuracy of the scales used in them and ensure their conformity with the specifications and standards approved in the country.
Likewise, he pointed out that the Department operates regularly through a comprehensive field plan to carry out inspection tours, which are implemented throughout the year by the specialized work team of commercial officers in the Department. It should be noted that these tours are intensified during the days preceding the seasons that are popular with consumers, such as the holy month of Ramadan and the festive season.
