Sharjah 24: Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) and Sharjah Foundation for Supporting Entrepreneurship (RUWAD) organised a workshop under the title "Entrepreneurship, Industrial Projects, Transforming Ideas into Industrial Projects" at the University of Sharjah (UOS) for the students of the College of Engineering. The session, addressed the most important steps for students' success in executing industrial projects, the areas of support given by the Sharjah government to the economic sector, and encouraging young people to enter the field of business.
Rashid Jihad Sawaqed, a Project Development Consultant at "RUWAD," led a workshop where students learned about how to run successful industrial projects and businesses, especially in the engineering field. It also included the benefits and amenities offered to companies through SEDD and the "Ruwad" Foundation, as well as training programmes, professional diploma programmes, counselling services, and financial services.
In response, Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the SEDD, said that the Department is committed to empowering university students by giving them knowledge and experience, as well as strengthening the bonds of cooperation between them, in order to raise Sharjah's status as a gateway to many emerging markets and a valuable chance for the development of many entrepreneurs.
He also stated that the department is interested in developing and implementing economic plans for the Emirate, undertaking research, building investment systems to assist companies, and creating a suitable investment environment. This is accomplished by simplifying and facilitating processes for investors, providing entrepreneurship advancements and requirements in a competitive work environment, and improving their entrepreneurship skills and capacities.
According to Al Suwaidi, SEDD will carry out its strategies derived from the wise leadership's vision, which is represented in providing support, guidance, and follow-up to students and project owners in the emirate, as well as providing them with new and innovative solutions, in a way that helps them thrive in the economic and commercial market, and in a way that achieves a return added to the GDP of the Sharjah economy in particular and the UAE economy in general.
The workshop, according to Mariam Nasir Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Industrial Affairs Department at SEDD, falls within the department's programmes and plans to qualify, train, and educate university students so that they can properly establish their projects, continue developing them, and ensure their sustainability. This can be accomplished by using and adopting the best marketing methods for the project, which ensures the success of the entrepreneurs, their ability to meet labour market requirements, staying abreast of changes in the business and investment sectors, and facing all urgent circumstances and challenges confronting economies and markets, of all types and causes, in order to improve the business environment in Sharjah.
