It is part of the department's plan for the current year to open a number of new mosques of varying designs and architectural styles in separate areas across the emirate to accommodate worshippers during the holy month of Ramadan. The mosque, which can accommodate 1,300 male and female worshippers, is distinguished by its central location.
Abdullah Khalifa Yarouf Al Sabousi, Head of the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, and other officials in the department attended the opening ceremony and prayed the Maghrib prayer after seeing the mosque and being briefed on its features.
With a total land area of 5,094 square metres (including the prayer chamber and its service facilities), the mosque was constructed in the modern Islamic architectural style, complete with a circular dome in the centre and two 41-metre-high minarets. There is space for 1,145 males in the men's prayer area, and 155 femles in the women's prayer area.
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah was commended by Al Sabousi for His Highness’s unwavering support of the department and his interest in providing prime real estate for the construction of mosques.
He praised the benefactors of the emirate for their charitable actions in constructing mosques, citing the Halima Al Saadia Mosque, whose construction was funded by a female benefactor.
