This came during a meeting including Dr. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock; Dr. Muhadithah Al Hashemi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, a delegation from the British University of Exeter, headed by Prof. Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University and her accompanying delegation.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the agricultural experiences of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, and its efforts and plans aimed at developing wheat cultivation, enhancing its contribution to the food security system, and applying sustainability practices in all its activities, which come in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Dr. Khalifa Al Tunaiji sparked light on the importance of scientific research in the field of wheat cultivation and pest control, cooperation with specialized higher education institutions, and the implementation of modern and sustainable agricultural technology and practices that serve wheat cultivation and agricultural development.
Al Tunaiji explained the stages of the 400 hectares wheat farm project which will be expanded to 1900 hectares to provide clean cultivation free of pesticides, chemicals and genetically modified seeds.
