Sharjah24: The seventeenth session of the Nabati Poetry Festival will take place in Sharjah on Monday and will last eight days, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Male and female poets, as well as critics and media professionals from around the Arab world, will be featured during the festival.
"We are on a constant date with the Sharjah Nabati (Vernacular) Poetry Festival, the Arab poetic event that celebrates the originality of words, which once again confirms the support of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, for Nabati (Vernacular) Poetry, as he believes in the importance and necessity of preserving national identity and memory," said Sharjah's Department of Culture and Information Chairman Abdullah Al Owais.
Poets from around the Arab world gather to perform and participate in the festival's many programmes.
Following the poetry readings, the festival will feature Sharjah Department of Culture publications as part of the book signing events. A symposium will be held in honour of the poets being honoured.
The inaugural event will take place in Sharjah's Culture Palace and will feature a screening of newly captured video of the honoured poets.
