Sharjah 24: Al Qasimia University, in cooperation with the Arabic Language Education Centre for the Gulf States (ALECGS) in Sharjah, celebrated the World Arabic Language Day under the title: “Arabic Language and Identity”, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Chancellor of Al Qasimia University; Prof. Dr. Hassan El Malkh, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; deans of the faculties, members of the academic and administrative staff, and students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Mohammed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy (ALA), dealt with the role of the historical dictionary in highlighting the Arab, cultural and historical identity of the Arab nation, and stated that this dictionary is a gift of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to everyone who speaks the language of “Dhad” in the entire world.
The Italian orientalist, Dr. Francesca Maria, also participated in a speech through visual communication techniques, in which she spoke about the importance of the Arabic Language in promoting rapprochement between the peoples of the world, and the place of that Language in Italian society in particular, and the European society in general.
Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, Director of ALECGS, delivered a speech in which he explained the centre's role in coordinating care for the Arabic Language among the Arab Gulf countries as a title for the Arab identity in raising generations and preserving their national and civilised identity.
Then, Prof. Hassan El Malkh, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, gave a speech in which he highlighted the Arabic Language as a great grace from God to us, and our role to teach it to non- Arabic speakers. He also referred to the mission and vision of Al Qasimia University, which he said, is based on two important pillars: The Holy Quran and the Arabic Language.
A group of students of the Language Center gave words of thanks and appreciation to the university, its founder and the UAE after they became Arabic speakers.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the University Chancellor honoured the winners of the competition for writing the best essay on "Arabic Language and Identity", as well as the members of the committees participating in the ceremony.
