Sharjah24: His Excellency Dr. Reda Hegazy, Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education, and His Excellency Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Education in Bahrain, praised the House of Wisdom (HoW) for serving as a beacon of knowledge and culture that bolsters Sharjah’s leading efforts in building bridges of communication and understanding amongst cultures, both regionally and worldwide.
This came during a visit paid by the ministers to HoW on the sidelines of their participation in the Third International Rakaez Conference organised by the Sharjah Education Council (SEC).

The visiting dignitaries and their delegations were received by Marwa Al Aqroubi, Executive Director of HoW; HE Dr. Saeed Musabeh AlKaabi, Chairman of SEC; and Mohamed Al Mulla, Secretary General of SEC.

During the visit, the delegations were taken on a tour across HoW’s facilities and briefed on the events and exhibitions hosted by the venue throughout the year, as well as its positive impact on community members. The dignitaries also discussed possible areas of cooperation in education with Sharjah.

They were also briefed on the Espresso Book Machine, a high-speed printer that can print and bind a book in under 5 minutes. The machine is connected to a database containing around 6 million books, which enables users to print their own works or a title from HoW’s On-Demand Books database.

As part of the tour, the Egyptian and Bahraini delegations stopped by ‘Frida and Me,’ an interactive children’s exhibition that celebrates the life and works of the great 20th-century Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. They were briefed on the immersive experiences that the exhibition offers for the younger generation and their families.

Marwa Al Aqroubi, HoW Executive Director, said: “We always present our gusts with a comprehensive overview of this cultural hub, which reflects the foresight and vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. We are also proud of HoW being a modern knowledge and cultural platform that draws the attention of Sharjah’s guests as a main destination to visit.”

She added: “We at the HoW realise the importance of enhancing cultural understanding and fostering cross-cultural communication as a way to strengthen relationships and cooperation with various nations and entities, while offering continuous opportunities for learning and knowledge promotion. To this end, we develop innovative programmes that highlight creative experiences and share expertise with the public in interactive and innovative ways, while introducing visitors to new cultures and honing their skills and talents.”

The HoW houses a collection of up to half a million resources, of which 11,000 are available in various languages. These include digital and audio books, e-journals, theses, and e-videos.
