Sharjah24: Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla, Chairman of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, said that the name of the UAE and its high status were the main reasons why he was chosen as Vice-Chairman of FIDE, even though there were 13 other strong candidates from different countries.
Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Mualla got 89 out of 176 votes at the International Chess Federation's "Congress" in Chennai, India. Greek candidate Macro and American candidate Michael got 80 and 71 votes, respectively, for the Chairman and Vice-Chairman positions.

Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla presented the victory to the wise leadership, praising its role in supporting sports, particularly chess, which contributed to the establishment and development of many chess clubs in the country's various emirates, as well as initiatives that contributed to the establishment of many international chess tournaments in the UAE. All of this helped to strengthen ties with all federations, especially Asian ones, which now add up to 52.

He thanked Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Sultan bin Shakhbut Al Nahyan, who is the President of the Asian Chess Federation and the President of the Al Ain Chess and Mind Games Club, for doing a lot to help him get this important job.

Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla said that he would continue to support the growth of chess at all levels and in many countries around the world. He said that he would serve and develop any newly formed federations and improve ways for Arab and international federations to work together. This would increase the number of players around the world, which would be good for the skills and experience of Arab players.
