Sharjah 24: Many critical issues connected to food self-sufficiency in all Arab nations were addressed by the Arab Parliament for the Child, an Arab League entity, from its headquarters in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
"Food Security Culture," the session's theme for this year, was a perfect opportunity for child parliamentarians to discuss climate change and its impact on food and agriculture in light of the crisis.
 
More than 60 people spoke out in support of Arab integration and international cooperation in order to meet the world's food and resource shortages head-on and ensure that people all over the world resume development and development efforts in a variety of food sectors, working on production and using modern technologies.
 
More specifically, the youth of Arab countries emphasised the importance of preserving food resources for future generations in order to ensure food security in the present and future, and they praised the role of their societies in preserving these resources, as well as the importance of fostering innovation in the face of current and future challenges, under the Arab League's umbrella.
 
On Saturday, the final session of the second run of the Arab Parliament for the Child was held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
 
The session lasted around an hour and a half and was presided over by Rataj Al-Absi, Parliament's Speaker from Bahrain.
 
It was Dr Khawla Abdul Rahman Al Mulla, a Sharjah Executive Council member and Secretary General to the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, who attended on behalf of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qsimi, the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs."
 
At the session, Dr Abdul Rahman Al Yasi, Director General of Sharjah Youth, Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, Shatha Alai Al Naqbi, Member of the Federal National Council, Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, and a number of Arab ambassadors, consuls, and diplomats accredited to the state, as well as parliament partners and invitees, attended.
 
Participants heard greetings from His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, through the medium of Arab Parliament Secretary General Ayman Othman Al-Barout. In his remarks, he said he had faith in the members of Parliament, adding they were up to the task. He conveyed his trust in them by saying so. 
 
As Al-Barout points out, achieving food security requires the involvement and cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly children, who make up half of the world's population.
 
Finally, Al-Barout expressed hope that the final session will produce recommendations that recognise Arab youth as strategic partners in all decisions.
Rataj Al Abbasi, the speaker of this parliament and the platform for Arab children everywhere, addressed the chamber before formally opening proceedings. She expressed Arab children's love, appreciation, and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
 
Many members have shared ideas for using and modifying smart applications and solutions in order to continue preserving food while also focusing on foreseeing the urgent needs for it to provide in the present as well as the future.
 
Conferences and forums to allow children and teens to discuss food security were proposed by members, as well as programmes and media platforms to highlight this essential social problem.
