More than 400 male and female students take part in the programme, which seeks to prepare young people during the summer vacation by providing them with skills, information, and experience via military exercises and educational and awareness lectures. This has a positive impact on the development of their personalities, the growth of their feeling of responsibility, and the building of long-term police friendships.
Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Saeed Al Dhuhur, who is in charge of public relations for the Sharjah Police, said that the "Friends of the Police" programme is meant to help people understand the role and value of police officers in keeping society safe and stable, fostering a sense of belonging, identity, and patriotism, and getting people involved in building the country in a positive way.
The programme will run through July 7, with more than 20 kids taking part. In the last three "Ithmaar" projects, lectures, seminars, and field trips have helped 60 students.
