Sharjah 24: Sharjah Documentation and Archives Authority (SDAA) organised a lecture entitled "Our history in our hands", presented by Dr. Khawla Al Aleeli.
The lecture comes as part of SDAA efforts to familiarise community members with the importance of documenting the history of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE with a historical and scientific methodology.
At the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Khawla Al Aleeli explained that history is not a narration of past events, nor a glorification of the most prominent actions and achievements, but rather reaching historical facts through which history can be used for the purposes of scientific research. She added that it is very important to rely on original documents, and therefore history is considered a science with a clear approach called the historical research method, which ensures the study and documentation of history and events in scientific and methodological ways.
Dr. Khawla Al Aleeli stressed the need for the new generation to exert more efforts to meet and balance events to reach the causes, justifications and results for each event mentioned about the history of the United Arab Emirates, especially since history is one of the mechanisms used to understand the truth of people past, present and future.
The lecture also provided a reading of the most important literature that tackled the history of the UAE before the establishment of the union, and showed its different types of narrative history, genealogies, and poetry. It also presented a standard comparison between these books and British documents, and presented selected models.
