Sharjah24: The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) issued a decision to amend its previous decision 2011 regarding the regulation of the profession of tourist guides in Sharjah.
The amended resolution authorises the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority to supervise and manage tourist guides in the emirate, organise training programmes, and set fees associated with refreshing programmes, in addition to issuing instructions and guides.
The authority also has the right to suspend or cancel the permit in case of violations. It was also mandated by the resolution to review the regulations in force in the neighboring emirates to hold accountable any individual who practices the profession without the necessary permits.
Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, affirmed that the authority welcomes these new amendments by the Executive Council to regulate the tourism sector and the profession of a tourist guide in the emirate.
He added that the authority is committed to ensuring quality and excellence in the services of the tourism sector in Sharjah, taking into account developing its procedures to implement the Executive Council’s decision and the newly issued amendments while adhering to the responsibilities entrusted to the authority as always.
The amended decision laid out a list of conditions that must be met by those who show interest in the profession to obtain a tourist guide permit.
The tasks and responsibilities entrusted to the tour guides were also detailed in the amended decision, and they include promoting a positive image of the emirate, working to mitigate any risks that visitors may face, complying with specific standards of professional and ethical behavior, and complying with all regulations issued by the Development Authority.
