Sharjah 24: In collaboration with the World Disability Union, the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs (SDIA) hosted a seminar for consulting offices and contractors specialising in building mosques in the Emirate of Sharjah, titled "Environmental Standards and Specifications in Building Mosques for People with Disablities."
This came in the presence of Dr. Tariq bin Khadim, Vice President of the World Disability Union, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled, Abdullah Khalifa Yaroof Al Suboosi, Chairman of Sharjah Department Islamic Affairs (SDIA), Haidar Talib Rabi, Secretary General of the World Disability Union, and a number of representatives of Sharjah’s government departments.
Abdullah Al Saboosi stated that this seminar is the first of its kind on all levels. The professionals who attended worked together to solve a number of problems, such as how to build mosques that are accessible to people with disabilities.
"The department has given a lot of care to people with disabilities. This is because His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, pays special attention to and cares for these groups. His Highness urges all community institutions to step up their attention and care for these groups to help them become part of society and get their rights," he said.
The seminar contained a variety of initiatives, perspectives, and recommendations to develop work, improve the quality of services offered to people with disabilities, and strategies to enhance the Emirate of Sharjah's global position as a friendly environment for people with disabilities.
