Sharjah24: The Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) has become the first entity in the region to become a member of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), marking a significant achievement in the entity’s efforts to protect rights of publishers at the regional and international levels.
The membership announcement was made during a recent IFRRO board meeting in Oslo, Norway. The membership provides ERRA with more opportunities to bolster support in protecting the copyrights of all content creators and reinforcing the critical role and value they add through their work.
Launched in March 2022, ERRA - a first-of-its-kind association in the region - was established in response to the UAE’s mandate to protect the copyrights of content creators and safeguard the rights of authors and publishers through appropriate laws and legislation.
The association will play a key role in reinforcing the position and role of the UAE in stimulating and encouraging creative industries as a fundamental pillar of the modern economy. The launch also reflects the growing dependence on intangible assets or intellectual capital as exemplified by the rapid expansion of the cultural and creative industries in the UAE’s digital economy.
ERRA’s strategy includes monitoring the re-use of print and digital works in schools, universities, copy and print centres, as well as public libraries, in collaboration with relevant government entities.
