The lecture was attended by His Excellency Saif Obaid Bouvier Al Shamsi, Chairman of Al Hamriyah Council, His Excellency Humaid bin Khalaf Al Ali, Vice President of Al Hamriyah Council, His Excellency Humaid Fayez Al Shamsi, Vice President of Al Hamriyah Municipal Council, the programme presenter Dr. Sultan Al Shamsi, member of Al Hamriyah Council, the poet Sultan bin Ghafan and Engineer Muhammad Khamis from the management of SIH and a large group of invitees.
At the beginning of the lecture, the presenter of the programme, Dr. Sultan Fayez Al Shamsi, member of Al Hamriyah Council, welcomed the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and the constructive cooperation between the Council and the Institute to provide activities directed to the people in the field of heritage service.
Poet Sultan bin Ghafan tackled a number of topics related to the title and objectives of the lecture in addressing the customs and traditions of Ramadan in the past, and how the people of the old Furjan were.
Poet Sultan bin Ghafan explained that the holy month of Ramadan, throughout the previous years, was a great joy for the people, especially during their iftar and suhoor, and going with each other to Al Fariyah or Al Farij Mosque to pray together.
During the lecture, Poet Sultan bin Ghafan mentioned a number of popular games in Ramadan that families, especially young children, used to play during the days and nights of Ramadan in terms of gathering and the participation of some in games based on the use of ball and ropes and the capabilities available at that time until the time of Suhoor or during the day in Ramadan.
Bin Ghafan touched on the inherited customs of exchanging food dishes between families, offering congratulations on the advent of the Holy Ramadan, as well as customs of preparing the feast and the participation of families with each other on different occasions.
At the end of the lecture, Al Hamriyah Suburb Council honoured the lecturer for his lecture on the holy month of Ramadan in the past.
