Sharjah24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) announced on Thursday the start of the trial operation of the second gas unit to generate electric power with a capacity of 345 megawatts, with an 80% completion rate, in the expansion project of the Al Layyah power plant, with a total efficiency of more than 60%, and the total cost of the project is 2 billion dirhams.
For his part, His Excellency Saeed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, confirmed that the operation of the second gas unit within the expansion project of Al Layyah station to generate electric power is an important achievement in line with the Authority’s strategy for 2030 in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, aiming to meet the demand for electricity and keep pace with the industrial, commercial and residential development in the Emirate of Sharjah.
 
The Authority has been cooperating since 2018, with the alliance of Mitsubishi Energy of Japan and El Sewedy Energy, to develop and expand Al Layyah plant with a combined cycle system, and the Authority chose ILF as a consultant for the project. The expansion project is to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.
