Sharjah24: As part of the Ramadan cultural programme, " in the Heart of Sharjah," the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) marked World Heritage Day, which falls on April 18th, by holding an event titled "Folk Traditional Games" yesterday (Monday). UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait, Oman, and Egypt are among those taking part in the event.
Dr Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, President of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, emphasised that World Heritage Day is a common invitation to revive folklore, protect human heritage, and introduce it to various forums, in line with the national identities of all peoples and societies, noting that the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Sharjah have always been pioneering in preserving the UAE's heritage and identity, and in promoting awareness of the role and efforts of grandparents and fathers in achieving the civilizational renaissance that the country has reached today.
"This year, we chose folk games as a focus for our World Heritage Day celebration, considering their importance in developing generations' beliefs and motivating young people to launch fresh ideas to enrich current living and stay in touch with heritage, "he says.
At the conclusion of the celebration, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage honoured the visitors and participants in the event, which has now become part of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage's yearly agenda.
