Sharjah 24: Eastern Region’s Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) organised, on Wednesday, a dialogue session in the old market in Khorfakkan for a number of women, to talk about Ramadan traditions in the memory of Khorfakkan.
This came as part of its series of activities for Ramadan about the customs and traditions inherited in Khorfakkan, during the holy month.
The dialogue in the session was moderated by Fatima Al Mughni, a heritage expert, with the participation of Dr. Alia Al Mughni, Head of Programmes Department at Abu Dhabi TV, and Aisha Saif Hammad Al Zaabi, one of the pioneers of educational work in the region.
Fatima Al Mughni said that the session reviewed many Ramadan social customs and traditions in Khorfakkan, which were inherited by generations for more than 50 years.
She explained that the session aimed to search the memory of Khorfakkan about the folklore of visiting during the holy month between relatives and neighbours.
The talk also touched on ancient professions and crafts that are specifically related to the month of Ramadan.
She noted the importance of such sessions in communicating generations, transmitting and consolidating the heritage among young people, praising the cultural, heritage and artistic movement witnessed recently in Khorfakkan and the Eastern Region.
