Forty-eight male and female players representing different clubs with disabilities in Sharjah will participate in the tournament which aims to explore new talents in the sport of chess and develop the spirit of competition among the participating players.
Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped confirmed that chess is one of the new sports that the club has included, and it has been very popular with club members with disabilities, noting that the aim of these participations is to train and develop the mental, physical, social and psychological capabilities of people with disabilities, and to implant self-confidence of the participating players, which motivates them to positively interact towards success and competition, and develop creative thinking to emphasise their ability to play all different sports. The tournament also contributes to identify the benefits of chess and its greater dissemination among the groups of the local community.
