Sharjah24: The College of Science at the University of Sharjah (UoS), through the Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy, participated in the activities of the International Program for Elementary Particle Physics, with the British University of Oxford and the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, in cooperation with CERN Laboratory in Switzerland.

The participation came to introduce high school and first-year university students to the nature of elementary particle physics, its relationship to other branches of physics, and its applications in daily life.

The programme included a set of introductory theoretical lectures that dealt with physics in general and its various disciplines, focusing on its importance and its relationship to various sciences, and its role in human life, presented by several faculty members in the Physics Department.

Dr. Nawar Thabet, Dean of the College of Science, pointed out that it is the first time that a university from the UAE has participated in this international program, and it is extremely important as it is a competitive program at the global level, which provides an opportunity for students to experience data analysis and discuss the results.

Through the workshop, the attendance of secondary school students and students of the physics department at the college obtained a set of actual experimental results from the CERN laboratory experiment, which were analyzed using a computer program designed for this purpose. Their results were extracted simultaneously with the participants from Britain and Brasil, and discussed with scientists and experts At CERN via video conferencing technology. This included several discussions and questions from the experts to the participating students to see how much they understood and answer the students' questions that expressed great passion in this field. Then this paragraph ended with a scientific competition between the participating students from the three universities, where all the questions were about the world of elementary particles.
