Sharjah24: In an interactive gesture that brought joy and happiness to the hearts of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) students from people with disabilities and their workers, Al Wafa School for Capacity Development (AWSCD), an affiliate of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) celebrated the World Down Syndrome Day, on 21 March, witnessing distinguished participation of the students of Al Maarifa International School.
The event was attended by Her Excellency Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, Director of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), and a number of department managers and parents.
Dr. Samia Mohamed Saleh, Director of Al Wafa School, confirmed that one of the most important goals of celebrating is to educate the community members about Down syndrome, promoting ways to enhance their confidence, ensuring to provide psychological and social support for families of people with Down syndrome, as well as raising the awareness about the educational and rehabilitation programs for them.
She stressed that Al Wafa School has for years been providing opportunities for people with Down syndrome, through establishing and developing partnerships according to best practices with local, Arab and international institutions and organisations.
Concluding her statement, she called on the community to be keen on improving the quality of life for people with Down syndrome.
