Sharjah24: The Educational Center for the Arabic Language for the Gulf States organised an international workshop for the project "The Reference Framework for Teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages: Composition, Teaching, Evaluation" .
The workshop was attended by several institutions and bodies specialised in the field of Arabic for non-native speakers, as well as a group of scholars and experts with expertise in the field of teaching Arabic for non-native speakers.

The project comes as a result of the tangible development of teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages in recent times, and the interest in teaching it has become a matter of necessity to keep pace with contemporary changes that take into account the diversity of linguistic content.

The project focuses on preparing a general framework for standards for preparing, building and evaluating curricula for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages, to highlight the most important features and specifications that must be met in preparing Arabic curricula for speakers of other languages.

The workshop dealt with the participation of the attendees and their views on the reference framework for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages, according to the elements of the questionnaire, which included (16 axes, which included the framework’s title: (the reference framework for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages: composition - education - training), and the concepts used in the framework, The objectives of the framework, the targets of the framework, and the four main language levels for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages.

The scholars, experts, participants and attendees praised the importance of the project as it is the first Arab-Islamic initiative to prepare this project, "The Reference Framework for Teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages: Composition, Teaching, Evaluation", which deserves support and care at the local, regional and international levels from the countries and institutions concerned and interested in language education. His Excellency Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, Director of the Educational Center for the Arabic Language in Sharjah, stressed that the project aimed to meet the urgent necessities of having curricula with standards that were built in accordance with the best international practices for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, and developing the content of Arabic curricula for speakers of other languages in light of international quality standards.

He explained that the main activities of the implementation of the project included reviewing the outcomes of the programs of the Arab Education Office and its organs in teaching and building Arabic language curricula for non-native speakers, reviewing the best practices and modern regional and global experiences in building Arabic language curricula for non-native speakers, and reviewing the studies that centered on the normative specifications for developing language curricula.
