This came during Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed chairing the 52nd meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Sharjah, which was held Monday, in the main building of the university.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Highness welcomed the members of the Board of Trustees who are present or using remote video communication, praising what the Board has achieved under the leadership of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed also praised all the efforts made by the members of the Board through the committees formed to follow up on the performance of the university and its achievement of the plans and strategies it set.
During its meeting, the council approved a number of topics, including the promotion of faculty members to the rank of professor and associate professor, the two doctoral programmes nominated for accreditation, one in biotechnology and the other in physical therapy, and the proposal to establish a research center for sustainable systems, technologies and infrastructure.
A proposal to transfer the Deanship of Quality Assurance, Institutional Effectiveness, Accreditation and Development to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Accreditation.
The Council approved the formation of the Financial Resources Development Authority at the university, the transfer of the Sharjah Award for Doctoral Theses in Administrative Sciences and financial disciplines to the University of Sharjah, in addition to the adoption of the age limit project to serve assistant professors and lecturers.
The council approved the graduation of university students who completed the graduation requirements for undergraduate programmes in the summer 2020/2021 semester (395 female students + 189 male students, with a total of 584), and the fall semester 2021/2022, and their number (565 female students + 307 male students with a total of 872).
The council reviewed the report of Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of UoS, in which he reviewed the progress of work at the university and the most prominent achievements during the past year, flexibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council was briefed on the progress of work in the Sharjah Research and Technology Innovation Park, which will constitute an important and main center for research in applied sciences aimed at producing technological innovations, developing knowledge-based economic projects, and establishing partnerships with universities, institutions and related sectors.
The university has achieved many advanced positions in international classification and national accreditation, as the Ministry of Education, through the Academic Accreditation Commission, classified it as a "highly trusted institution", and exceeded the requirements of the Accreditation Commission's standards for institutional licensing and program accreditation.
The academic programmes offered by the university reached 114 accredited programs (15 PhD, 41 Masters, 3 postgraduate diplomas, 55 bachelors), in addition to 36 programmes in progress (6 PhDs, 20 masters, 9 bachelors, 1 postgraduate diploma).
The number of students registered at the university last year was 17,500, including 2,830 in graduate studies, and 2,600 in the university's branches.
The Board also discussed the reports of the Strategic Committee, the Finance Committee, the Compliance and Internal Audit Committee, and the Academic Committee.
The meeting was attended by real and visual attendance using contact with members of the Board of Directors and a number of professors and deans of colleges.
