Sharjah Museums Authority organises series of workshops

Sharjah24: Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) is organising a series of activities, events and workshops on the side-lines of the exhibition “Drop by Drop Life Falls from the Sky. Water, Islam and Art”, currently taking place at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization and runs until 11th of December.
Organised in collaboration with the Italian Fondazione Torino Musei, the six-month long exhibition takes visitors on an intellectual journey to learn more about the importance of water in Islam, the historical development of the numerous roles played by water in daily life, and its artistic embodiment in Arabic and Islamic arts and culture.

Revolving around four main themes: The Blessings of Water and Islam, Water and Daily Life and Traditional Hammam and the Gardens, the items on display illustrate the deep-rooted cultural similarities and differences in the relationship binding water and evolution and how water has contributed to the creation of diverse civilizations and rich legacies of architecture, literature, philosophy and music, among other spheres.

Featuring more as many as role of water in Islamic heritage and art and highlight the common heritage that links Italy to the Arab-Islamic world. 

Collections on display are on loan from various renowned Italian public and private collections, and from the permanent collection of Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization and Sharjah Art Museum. 

Workshops and activities

The exhibition will organize a broad spectrum of carefully designed entertaining activities and learning workshops for children aged 9 -12 and their families, who will be treated to an array of educational and fun activities titled “Water: Life and Beauty".  The activities will take place at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization’s, at 10:00am, on Wednesday and Thursday, August 25 and 26. A pre-booking is required for family visits.

Adult visitors aged 18 years and above will have the opportunity to engage in the community program “"Rose Water" that allows them to learn about the secrets of rose water, its extraction and its important benefits and uses for skin and hair. Adult groups will be treated to an art training workshop titled "The Art of Decoration", due to be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, 8 December, giving them the opportunity to create Islamic designs inspired by the fine details of Islamic artifacts such as geometric and botanical decorations by combining both the decoupage and resin arts, via online platform zoom on the link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/86876254129?pwd=cXpRVnpUOWgxdm9HNDlWc2t2UTVTZz09.

The “Water: The Secret of Life” activity, organised via Zoom, allows school students to create models of ornate water fountains by learning how architects used to create fountains in Islamic gardens.
