APC holds its session with the participation of 17 Arab countries

Sharjah 24: The Arab Parliament for the Child (APC) will hold remotely its second session, on the thirty-first of July, with the participation of seventeen Arab countries.
The agenda includes the election of the speaker and two deputies and a discussion of a general topic.

The session will see the election of the speaker of the APC and two deputies, in addition to the permanent committees. Voting will be held remotely through an advanced electronic voting programme in a first-of-its-kind initiative, at the Arab level, overcoming the repercussions of COVID-19 and giving children the opportunity to practice democracy, which is one of the goals that APC is keen to establish in the hearts of children.

The APC General Secretariat headquarters in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, received the approval of seventeen Arab countries to attend the session, including the Sultanate of Oman, which, for the first time, attends the Parliament deliberations and nominated four children to represent the Sultanate.

In addition to the participation of the Sultanate of Oman, Arab countries participate in the Session, represented by their own children, namely the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Tunisia, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Djibouti, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Sudan, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Palestine, the State of Kuwait, the Lebanese Republic, the State of Libya, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Each Arab country is represented by four children, two males and two females, provided that the session begins with free and direct election among the 68 attending members and the APC speaker, the election of the first deputy, then the election of the second deputy. Moreover, the Parliament’s permanent committees will be elected, namely the Activities and Events Committee and the Committee on the Rights of the Child.   

After the elections process is done, the session will be chaired by the elected speaker of the APC, to discuss the role of the child in the peace of communities.

His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout pointed out that the Parliament’s General Secretariat, over the past period offered members a qualification diploma in the parliamentary work, in cooperation with the University of Sharjah.  The Diploma aims qualify members in various parliamentary aspects, as well as building their personality within the framework of the APC plan to build leaders in their society.
