Sharjah 24: His Excellency Dr. Sabah Aboud Jasim, Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), confirmed the great archaeological discovery made by the local archaeological mission in the Mleiha area in the Emirate of Sharjah, which is a pottery jar containing 409 rare silver coins.
His Excellency added, in exclusive statements to "Sharjah 24", that the coins are of pure silver, the weight of each of them ranges between 16-17 grams, and they are from the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula.
The Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority pointed out that the coins contained many symbols and connotations of great importance, including the palm tree, which may symbolise the area of Mleiha, and the three-pronged spear symbolising the location of the site, in addition to inscriptions in the Aramaic language.
His Excellency stressed the importance of the discovered coins archaeologically, as they provide researchers and specialists with information about the nature of ancient societies, pointing out that SAA is currently studying and analysing the coins, to learn more information about the ancient community of Mleiha.
