According to Al-Asam, information monitored by specialised agencies of Sharjah Police's Department of Anti-Narcotics indicated that large quantities of narcotic substances are being transported by sea into the UAE. As a result, the competent authorities began to form a team for monitoring, and a tight ambush was set up in cooperation and coordination between the joint federal teams to follow up on the smuggling process.
The Anti-Narcotics Force was able to apprehend six Asian members of a network that planned to smuggle and promote a large quantity of drugs as a consequence of investigation, prior monitoring, and sharing of tactical information.
This helped uncover the smugglers' schemes, and their attempts failed before they began to dispose the narcotic substances and smuggle them into the country.
According to Al-Asam, more than 182 boxes of various sizes, as well as bags and rolls, containing 209 kilograms of crystal drug and 6.7 kilograms of heroin and opium, with a market value of approximately AED35 million, were seized.
When confronted, the six smugglers admitted to bringing narcotic substances into the country with the intention of storing and distributing them. They were referred to the appropriate authorities, who took the necessary legal action against them, along with the seized items.
Al-Asam invited all individuals to assist the police in protecting society, particularly young people, from falling into the shackles of drugs, a plague that destroys societies, by reporting any suspected cases to the number 8004654 or via e-mail
