Sharjah24: Breastfeeding Friends Society (BFF), part of the Health Promotion department in the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, organised several educational and awareness events during the holy month of Ramadan.
These events included several virtual awareness lectures that were targeted to pregnant and new mothers, in addition to several mother support sessions in collaboration with hospitals in Sharjah (where there are 28 mothers who participated in these sessions) raising awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and the importance of continued breastfeeding as it provides the best nutrition for the baby.
25 mothers benefited from the services of the Office of Breastfeeding Supplies, 38 consultations were provided, and 6 participants from the Breastfeeding Counselor program were trained in hospitals and clinics.
As BFF is keen to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding and to strengthen communication channels with society, 5 videos were published in sign language in addition to 228 posts to raise awareness about breastfeeding and its benefits to mothers and babies.
Her Excellency Eng. Khawla Al Noman, President of BFF, affirmed the importance of strengthening the bonds between BFF and its volunteers. She also affirmed BFF will be organizing more activities and awareness campaigns with the aim of improving the physical and psychological health of mothers and children and encouraging breastfeeding as the best way to form a healthy and happy family relationship and thus build a society that enjoys improved mental and physical health.
In addition to that, BFF organised a Ramadan Night under the slogan “The Month of Giving”. Board members, employees and volunteers attended the session which included various activities to enhance communication and to exchange information and experiences between BFF and its volunteers. The number of attendees reached 25 volunteers.
