SIH celebrates International Museum Day

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) organised a virtual trip to museums on the occasion of the International Museum Day, starting from the Arab Heritage Museum, Khorfakkan Traditional Craft Museum, Othman Barout Museum, Fatima Al-Mughni Museum, Saeed Ali Al-Naqbi Museum, Maryam Hilal Al-Zaabi Museum, Abdullah Al-Kabouri Museum, Rashid Khalfan Museum Abdullah Al-Naqbi, Muhammad Khalfan Al-Naqbi Museum, Muhammad Saleh Al-Naqbi Museum, in addition to Al-Ain Museum, which is the oldest museum in the UAE, as well as the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation, and the Capitoline Museum in Rome.
His Excellency Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage said that the Institute is keen to celebrate the International Museum Day, given the importance of museums in introducing human heritage in general.

Al Musallam added that despite the challenges that are associated with the current circumstances of the pandemic, the International Museum Day is virtually celebrated and information is provided to all heritage enthusiasts, researchers and specialists. 

His Excellency explained that the celebration included a virtual trip to Arab Heritage Museum, Khorfakkan Traditional Craft Museum, personal musemums including Othman Barout Museum, Fatima Al-Mughni Museum, and Saeed Ali Al-Naqbi Museum, which receive the great support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Al Musallam pointed that museums play an important role in introducing the cultures of nations, peoples and civilisations, by displaying museum collections that contribute to educating large numbers of visitors, giving museum professionals the opportunity to communicate with society.

International Museum Day is held on 18 May, each year, since 1977, with the aim of strengthening the relationship between museums and societies, given that a museum, is not only a home for preserving historical, heritage and cultural treasures, but also an important scientific centre that contributes to disseminate knowledge and science, and introduce human heritage in all fields.
