Sharjah24: Sharjah Capability Development (Tatweer) – under the umbrella of Rubu’ Qarn, an initiative to grow an Emirati generation capable of leading and influencing the future – has concluded its training programs for the month of March 2021, which included archery and the survival skills challenge. The programs fall in line with the entity’s mission of discovering, developing, and investing the energies of generations in a stimulating environment, in cooperation with local and international partners.
On Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates, which rises 1934 meters above sea level, a group of Emirati youth, ranging in age from 18-23 years, of both genders participated in the survival skills program, the first of its kind in the country. The program was launched by the foundation as part of a series of life skills programs, and in collaboration with Bear Grylls Explorer's Camp, which has been developed by a team of local coaches and experts in learning the basics of wilderness survival.
Participants were introduced to life-saving skills and various methods such as working under pressure, using resources available to them, how to search for food and drink, methods of starting fire, as well as teamwork and cooperation in establishing emergency shelters, ropes and climbing skills, knowledge of directions, and more. Another group of adolescents participated in the archery shooting program, in cooperation with the Archery Academy at the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club, where, over a period of two months, the participants were taught shooting mechanisms and safety rules in order to enhance their competitive skills, develop their willpower, and learn organization skills.
The program, which was launched in mid-March, included 10 training sessions covering archery mechanism and practice, dismantling and installation of arcs, precautionary rules for shooting, and the ability to hit targets at a distance of 10-20 meters using the original long bow. This was in addition to the participants being taught the importance and necessity of following safety instructions in a safe and fun way. The participants will obtain a certificate in the art of archery at the end of the two-month training period.
Khalid Ibrahim Alnakhi, SCD’s Acting Director, said “These training programs come within the framework of Tatweer’s keenness to support the capabilities of young Emirati leaders, develop and enhance their skills, and also encourage and develop partnerships between different sectors in the emirate. We are committed to facilitating the implementation of new ideas and projects, in addition to supporting creativity and leadership skills, and promoting the best global practices.” Alnakhi pointed out that enabling young people to participate in training programs which keep pace with the developments of the times and the challenges of the future enable younger generations to acquire skills that develop their personalities and strengths. They will learn the values of cooperation, participation, and interaction, in order to be more giving and contribute to the development of their society. In 2017, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree establishing Sharjah Capability Development (Tatweer), would fall under the umbrella of Rubu’ Qarn and work under its supervision.
