Sharjah 24 – AFP: Novak Djokovic captured the 102nd singles title of his career on Tuesday by winning the China Open after opponent Alex de Minaur retired from the final. The 39-year-old Serbian secured the opening set in a grueling tie-break 7-6 (7/3), and was trailing by a game in the second set when the Australian was forced to end the match early due to physical issues.

The victory extends Djokovic's flawless record in Beijing to 34 consecutive wins, earning him his seventh title in the Chinese capital and his first since 2015. Both players endured a punishing first set lasting over an hour and required medical timeouts prior to the second, with de Minaur returning to the court sporting a white wrap around his left thigh before calling it quits.

Reflecting on the triumph during the trophy ceremony, Djokovic acknowledged a challenging year marked by health and physical hurdles, noting he was simply trying to find a good rhythm on the court. Meanwhile, a disappointed de Minaur apologised to the fans for the abrupt ending. The final capped off an unusual tournament path for both competitors, as de Minaur had advanced following Hubert Hurkacz's semi-exit, while Djokovic reached the title match after Daniil Medvedev's disqualification.
