Sharjah 24 – AFP: World number one Jannik Sinner announced on Tuesday that he has brought a premature end to his 2026 tennis season due to a knee injury. In a video shared on social media, the 25-year-old Italian stated that he and his medical team decided a course of treatment is necessary, forcing him to withdraw just over a month before he was scheduled to defend his crown at the ATP Finals in Turin.

Sinner's management team clarified that he will undergo treatment for knee inflammation to ensure a full recovery before starting preparations for 2027.

Despite an injury-hit campaign, Sinner enjoyed an exceptional year, boasting a career-best 94 percent winning record, capturing the Wimbledon title in July, and winning all six finals he contested, including five Masters 1000 events. While expressing disappointment over missing out on Turin—where he triumphed the previous two seasons—Sinner emphasized that prioritizing his long-term career is essential.
