The incident began when a report was filed at a specialised police station stating that a Chinese national had been robbed after advertising his goods for sale on social media platforms. One person contacted him, claiming that he wanted to purchase the entire quantity. After agreeing to inspect the goods, the two suspects lured the victim to an area within the emirate and tricked him into handing over the goods before fleeing the scene.
Brigadier General Dr Khalifa Belhai, Director of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Sharjah Police, said the specialised teams immediately launched search and investigation operations upon receiving the report. They gathered evidence, examined and analysed data, and used modern security technologies.
He said intensive investigations led to the circumstances of the incident being uncovered, the identities of the suspects being established and their movements being closely monitored, ultimately allowing police to locate them in a neighbouring emirate.
He added that, following immediate coordination with the security authorities in the relevant emirate, the specialised teams travelled to the suspects' location, arrested them and recovered all the stolen goods within less than 24 hours.
Sharjah Police stressed that the swift resolution of the crime, arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen goods demonstrate the readiness and efficiency of its security teams in handling criminal reports, as well as their ability to employ modern technologies and analyse data and information to support search and investigation operations.
The force urged members of the public to exercise caution when conducting sales and purchases with unknown individuals through social media platforms, verify the identities of those they deal with, and choose safe and official locations to complete transactions.
