Sharjah24: After Installing Water-Saving Devices in 4,000 Al Rahmaniya Homes, SEWA Launches Initiative in Mughaider Suburb

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has begun implementing its water conservation initiative in citizens’ homes in Mughaider Suburb, targeting approximately 2,000 homes for the installation of water-saving devices and fittings.

The initiative follows its implementation in Al Rahmaniya Suburb, where 4,000 homes have been covered and more than 14,000 water-saving devices have been installed to date, contributing to water consumption reductions of up to 59%. SEWA is continuing installations at homes where residents were unavailable during previous visits or could not be contacted.

Majid Haremal Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Corporate Support at SEWA, said the authority continues to implement the water conservation initiative in citizens’ homes across Sharjah, in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

He noted that the initiative aims to install more than 750,000 water-saving devices in more than 45,000 homes across the cities and regions of the Emirate of Sharjah.

Al Shamsi said the initiative will enhance environmental sustainability and promote a culture of responsible resource use. He stressed that SEWA is committed to strengthening cooperation and providing the necessary support to all segments of society to protect the environment, preserve natural resources, implement best water conservation practices, and encourage responsible, sustainable lifestyles that reduce waste.

He added that the authority is taking all necessary measures to conserve water and prevent waste, while expanding the number of beneficiaries whose homes are equipped with modern water-saving technologies, helping to reduce their utility bills.

Rashid Al Marzouqi, Director of Media and Communications at SEWA, said the authority has deployed 12 specialised technical teams, equipped with the necessary tools and machinery, to complete the initiative within the specified timeframe and to the highest standards.

He noted that SEWA has also provided a mobile platform at shopping centres, along with a range of events and media materials, to raise awareness of the initiative, explain how residents can benefit, promote proper water-saving practices, and demonstrate the effective use and maintenance of water-efficient devices. The initiative's impact will be evaluated periodically to ensure its objectives are met.

Al Marzouqi added that SEWA has established a clear implementation mechanism comprising eight key steps to ensure the initiative is carried out to the highest standards and within the designated timeframe. These include establishing a database of targeted homes, determining the budget, setting an implementation schedule, assigning tasks to qualified technical teams, contacting homeowners and obtaining approval for inspections and installations, conducting home visits and installing the devices, carrying out studies and surveys to measure customer satisfaction, and conducting a final assessment to determine water savings and prepare the initiative’s final report.

He called on citizens to participate in the initiative and to cooperate with SEWA’s specialised technicians, who will contact them to install water-saving devices in their homes at no charge.

He also encouraged residents to repair leaks in household water connections, help raise awareness and instil a culture of conservation among younger generations, and avoid waste in daily water use, stressing that water is essential to life and that conserving it is both a religious and a national responsibility.
