Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has installed and replaced 8,921 smart electricity meters across Sharjah City in the first half of 2026 as part of its digital transformation strategy and efforts to improve service quality.

The total includes the installation of 6,641 new smart meters and the replacement of 2,280 conventional meters with smart devices across residential, commercial and industrial areas.

Engineer Ahmed Al Bass, Deputy Director of SEWA's Electricity Distribution Department, said the project is part of the authority's strategy to expand smart distribution networks, improve operational efficiency and support environmental sustainability.

He explained that smart meters provide highly accurate, round-the-clock data transmission, helping to reduce operational errors, accelerate billing procedures and monitor electricity loads to detect faults and abnormalities at an early stage.

Al Bass added that the programme to replace older meters is being implemented on a phased schedule covering all areas of Sharjah City.

He reaffirmed SEWA's commitment to expanding smart meter coverage across the emirate through the latest international technologies, supporting Sharjah's vision of building a smart, sustainable city that delivers reliable, high-quality utility services.
