Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) completed scheduled maintenance on 138 33kV substations during the first half of this year, while also reviewing and approving 367 engineering plans for new substation projects and electricity network development in line with approved technical standards and specifications.

The Authority also completed 25 technical studies for new consumers and nine studies related to the electricity transmission network.

Enhancing network reliability and efficiency

Engineer Hamad Al Teneiji, Director of the Energy Transmission Department at SEWA, said these works are part of the Authority’s efforts to enhance the reliability of the electricity network and improve the efficiency of power transmission substations, in line with best practices in operation and maintenance.

He stressed that the Authority is working at full capacity to implement the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to develop electricity transmission and distribution substations across all areas of the Emirate of Sharjah, ensure the stability and reliability of the networks, and provide high-quality services.

He added that the Authority is also reviewing electrical installations and carrying out maintenance work and continuous monitoring of all substations and networks.

Preventive maintenance and original spare parts

Al Teneiji explained that the maintenance programme covers power transmission substations and distribution transformers located across various areas of Sharjah.

He emphasised that SEWA prioritizes routine preventive maintenance and uses high-quality, genuine spare parts to keep equipment and substations running efficiently.

Maintenance plan covers 218 substations

Engineer Abdullah Al Kous, Deputy Director of the Energy Transmission Department, said the Authority’s plan includes the maintenance of 218 power transmission and distribution substations.

He noted that a significant part of the plan has already been completed, while work is continuing on the remaining substations in accordance with the approved schedule and the highest safety and quality standards to ensure uninterrupted service for customers.

Developing operational and technical processes

Al Kous added that the Authority is working to develop operational and technical processes used to monitor Sharjah’s electricity network, provide operation and maintenance requirements, review and implement maintenance programmes, and further develop and improve the electricity network.
