Incidents impacting schools and students in Gaza
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said a sixth-grade student was injured after being hit by a bullet inside a tented classroom in Gaza City and was taken to hospital. The agency also reported that Israeli forces had demolished homes and the last remaining school in a former four-school compound in Beit Lahia.
OCHA said the area had recently seen increased restrictions, with troops advancing near zones affected by movement limitations for humanitarian workers. It added that tents belonging to displaced families sheltering in a schoolyard had been destroyed, forcing aid organisations to provide urgent assistance.
Protection of civilian infrastructure
The UN stressed that international humanitarian law requires civilians and civilian infrastructure, including schools, to be protected and that learning spaces must remain safe for students and teachers.
Demolitions and displacement pressures in the West Bank
In the occupied West Bank, OCHA reported that parts of a school in Masafer Yatta, southern Hebron, were demolished, affecting a community of more than 1,000 Palestinians facing displacement pressures. The agency said more than 80 Palestinian schools across the West Bank are currently facing demolition or related orders.
Humanitarian support and educational programmes
Despite the challenges, education partners have supported tens of thousands of students in the West Bank through learning programmes, school rehabilitation, transportation assistance, and psychological and legal support.
