The workshop introduced children to the concept and importance of volunteer work in serving the community through simple, engaging methods and interactive discussions. It gave participants the opportunity to explore different fields of volunteering while highlighting the positive role every individual can play in supporting their community, regardless of age.
The workshop also featured a group activity designed to promote cooperation and teamwork, alongside the distribution of child-friendly educational materials explaining the principles of volunteerism and encouraging children to take initiative and participate in community activities, thereby strengthening their sense of responsibility and belonging.
Souad Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work, said investing in children is a fundamental pillar in building a society that embraces the culture of volunteering. She noted that instilling these values during the early stages of childhood helps prepare generations who possess awareness, responsibility and a clear understanding of the importance of contributing to their communities.
She said: "The 'Little Volunteer' programme aims to introduce children to the concept of volunteering through an enjoyable and interactive approach that combines learning with play, while reinforcing the values of cooperation, initiative and giving. Through this programme, we seek to nurture a generation that views volunteer work as a way of life and a daily practice reflecting a strong sense of belonging and social responsibility."
Al Shamsi added that the award continues to develop high-quality programmes targeting different age groups as part of its mission to promote a culture of volunteerism and strengthen its role in achieving sustainable community development. She stressed that children are the foundation of the future and that instilling these values today will help shape tomorrow's volunteers and future leaders of community initiatives.
The "Little Volunteer" programme is part of a series of initiatives implemented by the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW) to promote a culture of volunteerism across society and prepare a generation that believes in the values of positive participation and recognises volunteer work as a key partner in achieving sustainable development and strengthening social cohesion.
