The visit reflects the Institute’s commitment to supporting artistic and cultural initiatives inspired by the UAE’s heritage and national identity.
The delegation was welcomed by Salem Al Junaibi and Dr Noha Farhan, founders of Aswar Arts Centre, who introduced the centre’s vision and objectives and then guided visitors through the exhibition, which presents the UAE’s maritime heritage through a contemporary artistic lens.
The exhibition showcases a collection of works that highlight traditional Emirati boats and their historical and cultural significance within the nation’s collective memory.
Artist Ismail Al Refaei employed black tones and varied artistic techniques to capture the aesthetic qualities of heritage vessels and to reflect their symbolic connection to the marine environment, creating a visual experience that blends authenticity with modern expression.
Dr Al Musallam said the exhibition demonstrates art’s ability to reinterpret elements of heritage through a contemporary visual language, thereby strengthening awareness of national identity and connecting younger generations with their cultural legacy.
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation praised the exhibition’s artistic quality and its contribution to showcasing the beauty of the UAE’s maritime heritage, while reinforcing its place within the cultural and creative landscape.
