Real Madrid sign Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva

Sharjah24: The Spanish capital club affirmed that Silva has joined the team on a free transfer after bringing an end to a successful nine-year spell with Manchester City following the ending of his contract at the end of last season. His contract with Real Madrid will run until 30 June 2028.

Successful spell with Manchester City

Silva made 459 appearances for Manchester City since joining the club from AS Monaco in 2017, scoring 76 goals during that period.

The Portuguese midfielder won 15 major trophies with City, including four consecutive Premier League titles between 2021 and 2024. He was also part of the historic treble-winning side that claimed the UEFA Champions League title in 2023, in addition to helping the club secure all four domestic trophies during the 2018–2019 season.

Real Madrid rebuild under Mourinho

After failing to win a major trophy for two consecutive seasons, Real Madrid’s re-elected president Florentino Pérez appointed Portuguese coach José Mourinho earlier this month.

Cucurella arrival onfirmed

Real Madrid had also announced on Monday the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea FC in a deal reportedly worth €55 million (US$63.8 million).
